Data assimilation significantly improves forecasts of aerosol and gaseous pollutants across China

Air quality is one of the most concerns among the public, and great progress has been achieved in improving the prediction of air quality and atmospheric pollutants. A chemical data assimilation system has been developed and implemented by Chinese researchers, aiming to improve forecasts of particulate matter and gaseous pollutants across China. Simultaneous assimilation of concentration observations of both PM2.5, PM10 and gaseous pollutant SO2, NO2, CO, O3 significantly improved individual forecasts.
